The Valdeorras region is special because they are mainly known for producing white wines. A Portela has a subdistrict within that, that produces red grapes, one of those being Menca.The vines for the Menca were planted from 1976 to 1990. The soil consist of clay, granite, and slate. The wine is aged 12 months in stainless steel and then another 8 months in French oak barrels. This wine has a nice light cherry and rose fragrance on the nose with a plush finish. Herb-roasted chicken, pork loin, sauted mushrooms, lamb chops, or salmon would be great dishes to pair with this divine red!
