Alpha Estate is located in the northwest part of Greece and was founded in 1997 by viticulturist Makis Mavridis and chemist-oenologist Angelos Iatridis. Today, the estate is made up of 220 hectares and is making way for the next generation of winemakers. The founders daughters are learning from their fathers and are preparing to take over the winery while they simultaneously strive forward in organic farming. This gorgeous red blend is made up of 60% Syrah, 20% Xinomavro and 20% Merlot grown on sandy-clay soil over limestone before being manually harvested and spending 18 month in oak caks. The end result is a full bodied red with an abundance of dark fruit complemented by pepper and spicy oak notes. The winemaker suggests pairing this wine with various juicy red meats or aromatic-piquant cheeses.
