Umbria, affectionately known as the green heart of Italy, is located just above Rome and borders Tuscany, though it is much less well known or traveled as either of those two places! Sagrantino is a native varietal of Umbria, brought to the region by Franciscan monks centuries ago and has recently enjoyed a resurgence in popularity over the last 30 years or so. You will find this wine to be bright red in the glass and showcasing notes of red fruit and spice. The palate is well structured with a subtle flavor of dried fruit and vanilla and there is a long, velvety finish with a hint of chocolate. Pair with aged cheese or a roast!
