Planted more than 50 years ago and purchased by Brenda and Clay Coquerel in 2006, Coquerel Family Wine Estates is located just beyond the town of Calistoga at the north end of the Napa Valley. Winemaker Christine Barbe originally hails from France, allowing for a perfect union of French technique and tradition and Napa Valley terroir. The resulting wines are complex and concentrated, crafted in small lots to ensure character and authenticity and enjoyable in their youth as well as having the potential to develop in the bottle for years to come. Their 2019 bottling of Merlot is no exception; a blend from Coquerels own estate vineyards and other quality growing sites within Napa Valley, this wine shows an alluring bouquet of ripe cherries, fresh bay leaves and a kiss of caramel. Plush on the palate with classic flavors of red plums, raspberry and cocoa, supported by silky tannins and fresh acidity and followed by a long, delightful finish.
