After being born and raised in Alentejo and subsequently spending more than 25 years working in viticulture in this region, winemaker Jose Pitiera has an intimate knowledge of its terroir. From its limestone, schist and granite rich soils to the cooling breezes from the Atlantic Ocean and the Serra de Portel, Jose has mastered the art of crafting wines that allow indigenous Portguese grapes to shine. Semaphore 7 is a blend of three such grapes – Alicante Bouschet, Tinto Aragones and Trincadeira – and shows notes of blackberries, dark cherries and crushed violets. Earthy tannins give with to a velvety, soft finish. Enjoy alongside hamburgers or bean stew.
